Dear Aunt Pat and Aunt Dawn,

Well, I am here at my new home!  WOW, did I get to see and do and learn a lot of new stuff lately!  I've been to so many different places in such a short time!  My new mom says we are HOME now and I am trying to get use to how different everything is here.  There are not many other dogs to play with - Tory isn't ready to play a lot with me and the cats won't have ANYTHING to do with me so I am kind of bored.  Mom is working today but she takes me out often and tries to play with me when she can, but it sure is quiet here!!!

I think I like my new home, it will take me a little while to get use to it though.  And, I think I like my new mom.  I DO NOT like to sleep in my crate at night, though!!  Also, I guess I make a big pest of myself at dinner time but I can't help it I want to eat what mom and dad are having!!!!

Guess what I can do already - I can go up and down steps!!!  I'm really proud of myself!  I was a bad boy once yesterday in the house, but I am really working hard at being a good boy and trying to tell Mom I need to go outside.  I like it when Tory and I both go outside together.  Tory will play with me a little bit and that is fun.  I keep trying to chase the cats, but Mom won't let me!!  We have to get our paws wiped off when we come in from outside each time and I am getting pretty good at helping Mom with that.  I didn't understand all that at first, but it did not take me long to figure it out - I'm a pretty smart boy, aren't I!?!?!

Mom got me some toys and for now I have a really pretty red collar on - I look pretty sharp in red!!  I don't play much with the toys but I probably will later.  For now, I am content most of the time to lay in Mom's office and listen to her work.  When Dad gets home tonight me and Tory will get to go outside together - that will be a lot of fun!!

Well, that's it for now.  Just wanted you to know I am doing pretty darn good all things considered.  Tell everyone HELLO for me.

Love,
Niffy

P.S.  Hi Dawn and Pat - yep, Niffy is doing really well.  He is under my feet nearly constantly, but I don't mind - I just hate it when I step on him!!  I am trying to take him out as much as possible for these first few days so he can slowly settle in to the routine around here.  When I work, it is hard on him cause I can't give him all my attention!  We are best buddies and I just love it!  He and Tory are getting along pretty well.  Tory is not yet into changing her lifestyle but you can see where she is interested in what Niffy does and she seems to respond a bit to that.  Last night she wanted him to play but he was interested in the cats so that didn't work but I'm sure they will do great.  He doesn't want to be away from where he can see me or at least be where he can get to me yet.  I'm sure this will change a bit the longer he is here.  We have a wire run hooked up for him and one for Tory till we can do the fence thing.  But, when I put him on it he just wants to go where I go and if that is in the house, he wants in too!  I put him on it a little each day to get him use to it and eventually, he should come around to it.

He IS going up the stairs and down the stairs real well, took him a couple of times in and out of the trailer to get that down.  And, I am going to try to teach him to ring some jingle bells tied to our door when he wants to go out.  If that works, then when I get involved with my work and forget to check on him I will at least know when it is time to go out!!

This morning he was trying to eat some grass - is this a clue of something I should look out for?  Is this telling me he doesn't feel right?  His little nose is still moist and cool, but I thought I should ask anyway.  Also, he wants to scratch in one spot a lot - is this his dry skin?  Is there something, besides diet, that I should do for him?

You guys, I just love him!!  He makes me smile just looking at him!!  We think we should keep him in his crate a night for a while and he sure does not like that!!  I hate to do it, but he eventually gets quiet and stays quiet all night!  He is just the BEST - thank you, thank you, thank you for this little bundle of joy!!

More later!

Sharon
