Historical Mix-ups in Schipperkes

As any good historian can tell you, one of the most important things is to verify, verify, verify!  Careful documentation and proof to back up your facts is critical.  Even so, all of us are only human, and below, we have listed some of the errors that have been discovered in the breed.

One of the most famous Schipperkes in America is CH Del-dorel's Stardom.  This dog made records in his day first as a show dog and a Best in Show winner (he won 9 Best in Shows), he was a fabulous sire as well - siring the dog that would break his own record (CH Kleinahof's Marouf A Draco).  Stardom appeared in many places in the Complete Schipperke (1993), one of which was on page 100 of the Schipperke Hall of Fame.  Unfortunately, and it is unknown how, it was not a picture of Stardom that went in!  The picture was instead of CH Skipalong's Glade, who was a son of Stardom.  This was discovered when Janette Sweet was looking through some of her older Schipperke Bulletins, and in the 1969 issue, she discovered the picture on the left, with the label of "Glade" beneath it - which has also been scanned in.  As you can see, this is not only the same dog, this is the same picture as the one labeled as "Stardom" on the right!   This picture was verified to be of Glade afterwards by Fran Griggs, his owner and breeder, and she supplied two pictures which she could verify were of Stardom (two of these pictures are just below).  Stardom obviously sired puppies which were very much like him, and that must be why the picture of Glade was put in by mistake.
